Home Based

It feels funny not going away this January...
But it's nice - being at home & having time to potter about.
Work has thinned out for now & we're glad.
After the shock of losing several properties in November & panicking about lack of money - we realise now that we will make it through the Winter & everything is going to be fine!

Of course there is lots to keep us busy...
We're preparing one of our en-suite spare rooms ready to use for B&B, so Sime's been busy with paint again & I've had to get our accounts in order - they do get badly neglected when we're out so much & for the first time in 4 years I'd filled in our tax returns & had forgot to post them before the deadline...
Luckily, there was still time to submit them online, but it's been a pain & we've had to pay for the commercial software - which we could have done without!
Nevermind, it's all sorted now & we can forget it until next time.

We're going to have a go at making marmalade later this week for the first time... Will take photos!
We've also need to make more beer - we've been brewing our own for about 20 years, though with malt extract - which I'd like to get away from. One day we will use grain, but Sime says it's just too complicated - maybe this week I'll do some research.
Our Christmas brew is a bit of a dud - it was made quickly, without sugar & little malt extract, so it's not really alcoholic - though it's still fairly pleasant. We used organic hops & lavender, which is a favourite for both of us. Come spring we pick nettles & cleavers, which are great & later on, we're hoping our lemon balm will be blooming ready for a Summer brew.

While I write Sime is busy learning some extra songs for his band rehearsal this week...

And we still have our tree up!
We usually leave it until it starts shedding it's needles, but there's no sign yet...

It's a sign we're not working...
Late nights are back!

Sime might not be enjoying my singing along to his music - but I am!!!

Bye for now.

  1. Good luck with the marmalade. I'm going to order a marmalade pack with my vegetable box this week, and a second the week after, as the one batch I made last year ran out before the end of the year. Preparing the oranges is a long fiddly process but quite enjoyable if you make a cuppa, turn on the radio and take it slowly.

  2. Hi Gai - we've ordered the kit with our veg box for this week. I remember yourself & Karin making it last year & had seen the kits, so thought we'd give it a go!

  4. Well I think it is Mel, though I'm sure Sime would say differently... But it would help if I knew the lyrics instead of making them up!

  5. After being away for the weekend, I know being home is where I like it best. Enjoy yourself singing Kay ~ even if Sime doesn't!! ;o)
