Another Crazy Week

Image
Every year it seems to come as a shock just how busy we get in August. We are working incredibly long hours... Holiday home owners are heading down & all the properties we take of are full. So there's lots of cleaning to be done, things to fix & guests (not all nice either) to deal with. We are getting very tired, but happy to see money coming in... Occasionally, we get time to pop home for lunch between jobs. (Kitties like us being home) All our work is very close to where we live, so the furthest we travel is just over 2 miles!   Sime's colourful lunch... On the days we don't manage to get home - we still have a break... And eat lots of fruit & nuts. This week started out lovely & hot, although the sea was really choppy... Portmellon - we seem to spend more time down there, than at home! Portmellon at night... The Donks  We stopped for a chat with their human friends after work... They are all wearing some fancy headgear to stop the flies from

Working all day sometimes means snacking on fruit & nuts until we get home... When we can enjoy 2 meals in one... Lunch - houmous, salad & pitta. Dinner - Chickpea & vegetable curry with turmeric basmati rice. All on 1 plate... Delicious!

The Cleaner Cometh...

Image
A number of holiday let guests having been less than fastidious in their end of holiday clean ups, will now have to deal with... Our very own cleaner... Mr Smith. But underneath the shades... He's still a cuddly little bunny! Anyway, we'd better get cracking... Have a happy Saturday! Kay & Sime xx

Life As We Know It

Image
Apologies for yesterday's post... For those of you who don't know Sime - he is a silly billy & you really shouldn't take much notice of anything he says! Anyway, here's some photos of the last few days... Gorran Haven The beach was packed today - didn't look much like fun to us... A very chilled out Floobs... (He's Sime's baby boy) Our new garden friend... We call him Froggy the Toad! And Waspy the Bee! Sime's home made chilli & turmeric rice. We use turmeric a lot - it has fantastic medicinal properties... It inhibits the growth of cancer cells, protects the liver from toxins, can dissolve gallstones, lower cholesterol, alleviate joint swellings, increase joint flexibility & reduce menstrual pain.    Leftover chilli, rice & salad with baked sweet potatoes & courgettes. We bake the potatoes dry & sprinkled the courgettes with smoked paprika & soy sauce. The view from work yesterday afternoon... A dull, but humid day!

Space Debris

Image
I don't know why I've not blogged about this incredible local attraction before.... Usually, space junk burns up upon re-entry into the earth's atmosphere, but occasionally there are anomalies and here are two such objects. Launched in 1963 from the  фигня  launch pad deep in the heart of the former U.S.S.R., these  geostationary communication satellites performed their tasks impeccably until earlier this year   when a meteor shower struck them sending them both back to terra firma and a crash landing in a farmer's field nearby. Incredibly, no-one was injured by them, They rest virtually intact and look very much as they did  some 49 years ago. Local Lepidopterist  A.H.Oaks who was admiring the rare moth the Tisheria Dodonaea as the satellites impacted the field remarked :  " The M.O.D. boys were on the scene within 15 minutes, the field  was isolated  and I was told to keep quiet or run the risk of being pricked and mounted myself. I naturally stayed tight-lipped

Eat To Live

We've wanted to see this film for a long time & we finally found it today.  We have both the books written by the main guys - Drs' Esselstyn & Campbell, which have been life changing. You can find the film here:  Forks Over Knives Hope you enjoy it! Kay & Sime xx

Pounds Better Off

Being vegan is liberating... It feels so good to be eating foods that have no link to animal cruelty & the side effects of our diet have brought us good health, strength & happiness - not to mention the loss of unwanted weight! I have lost over 2 1/2 stone (38 lbs/17kgs/19 bags of sugar) since January... Sime's lost 2 stone too! We eat huge amounts of food, but it's all plant based & mega healthy. We kicked our chocolate habit & no longer crave crappy foods.  We can eat vegan chocolate now & again & enjoy it - without wanting to eat the whole bar! We don't eat any oil at home (though difficult when eating out) - we do eat a tablespoon of ground linseeds in our porridge, along with a spoonful of ground hemp seeds. Our meals are pretty simple, but delicious. We eat a variety of grains every day, at least 10 vegetables & fruits & 3 or 4 different pulses/legumes. Quitting dairy, eggs & oil has given our bodies a wonderful treat - no mor

All Change

Hugo has finally put his foot down... And insisted that it's time... . To lose his lovely locks... Sal last cut his hair just before we went to France in January last year... Wished mine grew that quick! We're a bit sad about it, as we always are when he has it chopped off... But we'll get over it & Hugo's thrilled to have short hair again, as it doesn't take so long to wash! Our lovely lad! Another change for us this week... Our bright green paintwork on the house has changed... Rose & Asa showing off our newly painted porch. Yes we're getting very fashionable now - no more bright green... We've gone for the more modern French grey! The weather keeps changing too... Thursday morning was dull, wet & miserable... So much so - lots of campers were leaving our little peninsula & getting in the way of us getting Hugo to the train station!  By the afternoon it was lovely & warm! (there's our tipi again) Before we arrived to

A Whirlwind Of A Week

We've been so busy... Working with our little friends... In between jobs... Sime's been painting the walls at the back of the house. We've washed everything possible & dried it outside... We attended our friend, Ruth's "installation" as Priest of St Gomomda's in Roche... The church & her new home are just across from this rocky outcrop... More here We took Hugo for a meal out at  Archie Brown's  in Truro... Millet burger, sweetcorn salsa & salad. And a fabulous raw chocolate torte! Made with avocados & raw cacao beans...  After our meal in Truro, we dropped Hugo off at  The Surya Yoga Camp . He was working as a steward & assisting with some circus workshops... Chyan  is the community field where the camp is based. Compost loos... This is our tipi... We sold it to the community some years ago & it's great to see it's being used! Inside the tipi... This was Hugo's 4th time at Surya, as our friends are the s
