The Best Medicine

We came home from work this afternoon & inside the house, we could see...
 Flea sitting in his favourite spot - the plant pot in the window! 

Last night's dinner - cottage pie...

Made from green split peas, chopped walnuts & mushrooms.
Topped with Sime's mashed potatoes & served with steamed broccoli & carrots.
All organic & we added a couple of dollops of miso to the mixture, before putting it in the oven.

A regular event at meals times - Hugo & Sime end up in hysterics...
Can't remember what they were talking about, but Sime just lost it...
He carried on...
And on...
And on... (He's just a nut case, but a happy nut case)!
A more serious chap today.
He's been practising band #2's music, ready for his second rehearsal with them tonight!
Although he's a bass player, he finds it easier to use his acoustic guitar to play along to the band's CD.
So I was serenaded, while making food for the freezer...

Forgot to take photos, but made a big tub of tofu & vegetable pasta sauce, another big tub of spicy parsnip & coconut soup. Also steamed some broccoli & cauliflower from today's veg box & froze them too. Then finished off with another batch of cookies to take on our journey up north - one of my odder concoctions: chocolate, peanut butter, banana & cinnamon - though they do taste good!

So yet another early start tomorrow & Hugo's coming too - which is lovely.
 Aiming to get to Cribbs Causeway, just north of Bristol for breakfast!

Not looking forward to my Uncle's funeral. 
But am glad we're managing to do it & that we have an opportunity to say goodbye.
It will be the same place that my Uncle & I sat together & held on to each other at Nan's funeral 18 months ago, so sad memories...

We're planning to just sit at the back & disappear as soon as it's over - hopefully, without any fuss!

Lobby , a photo by thesmithsontour on Flickr. Lobby is the name potters gave to a simple stew. We both grew up eating it most weeks. My Grandparents always had a big pan of lobby on their stove & my mum used to make it in her pressure cooker.... Our version of the North Staffordshire dish is so cheap & easy to make - we love it! We use onions, garlic, lots of root vegetables, pulses, some greens & fresh herbs. You can add stock , miso or soy sauce, but cooking it slowly for a couple of hours just makes it taste so good & finishing off with a sprinkle of black pepper & the juice of half a lemon. Diet And Drugs

Some of you know about my fight with Graves Disease, an auto immune system disorder, which causes an overactive thyroid. Since I was diagnosed 7 years ago, I have made it my business to know everything I possibly could about the condition & this has probably saved my life. I have blood tests on a regular basis & in November last year, I was told that my T4 levels are normal & again in January the same.  My thyroid stimulating hormone was finally starting to work too, after 7 years of lying dormant, so I suggested I came off the anti thyroid drug & my GP's response was to continue for a while longer. A month ago, I rang my GP & suggested again that I come off the drug or at least halve it, as I was feeling so well  & was concerned about the drug pushing me into being under active. Bigger Is Not Necessarily Better

“Wisdom demands a new orientation of science and technology toward the organic, the gentle, the elegant and beautiful.” ~ EF Schumacher ~ Schumacher wrote his book "Small is Beautiful" in 1973 and for us - it is still relevant today.  We haven't had internet at home for nearly a month and it's interesting how we first saw it as a big issue and ventured out daily to get a signal to keep on top of messages, but as time's gone on - we find ourselves not bothering and instead embrace a gentle and quieter life...apart from when digging out old CDs for a bit of music now and again! We realise how wonderful it is to have time away from the world and the little impact the fearmongering propaganda really makes to our lives. We have no interest in news, but unfortunately many people on social media are fully immersed in it's misery and like to shout out about it.
