Soggy Eden

We went along to  Eden  on Friday to renew our passes & due to our usual faffing about - we arrived just 3 minutes before the last entry time at 2pm...  If we'd turned up just 1 minute late, we would have been refused, so we were lucky! We just had an hour - so as it was a rare occasion.  (Hugo was with us) He chose to head down to the biomes...  Taking a detour through the spiral garden...  Over the ammonites...  Around the back... Past the recycled electrical appliance giant... And into the cafe for some warming vegan grub...  chocolate & kale chili, which only Sime liked.  Red lentil & sweet potato soup with rocket & pepper salad. It took ages for the staff to confirm what was vegan, but at least they had something... While we were eating the biomes closed, so we didn't get a chance to visit this time - but at least we now have free entry for the next 12 months...  Although we're still togged up - it's getting milder. Is spring on it's

Eden Project Time of Gifts

Image
Last week we went to the Eden Project's Time Of Gifts Winter Festival. We enjoyed a lovely evening... It rained, but turned out to be warm for this time of year... Inside the Mediterranean Biome...  Hot Air Balloon in the Humid Biome... The Malaysian House in the Humid Biome... The campfire outside... And Sime with his lantern... (Which he nearly burnt the house down with the other day)! Our video of the music... We loved this song! Enjoy! K&S xx

Humans Doing

It's half term for the school children of the UK this week. This means lots of families head to Cornwall for a holiday & make lots of work for us! Of course this is great for our own holiday fund - but doesn't half interfere with our leisure time... We had an evening out in our newly opened village pub on Sunday, which was very nice (though we ended up staying much longer than planned & spending more money than we anticipated), so it was a struggle to get up yesterday - which really annoys me, because I like to be organised.  Anyway, we made up for it today - up early, got lots done & while the car was having a light fixed at the garage (which amazingly, they did free of charge - as we're regular customers!), we had time to have a cuppa at  The Eden Project Cafe , which opened in St Austell last week & is very nice - they have local vegetables for sale, a book swap scheme & a great looking menu with veggie & vegan choices too, so we were impressed!

St Austell's Largest Biomes

It's probably been a year since we were last at Eden... So it was interesting to see the changes they've made over the last 12 months. And nice to see some of our old favourites are still there! It was only open for a short while, but we did everything we wanted to & more! The walkway to the roof of the Rainforest Biome is new. And we were all feeling brave today! This biome is very much like a rainforest. There are several rock wall paintings, which are fading & becoming overgrown now. The entrance to the Rainforest Lookout... 9 flights of stairs & 165 ft high, we had to fill in medical forms beforehand! On the way to the lookout, there's also a hot air balloon. One lucky person each day - gets to ride in it! On our way up... And the view from the top! Fam 4 at the top. Although is was chilly outside - it was over 80 degrees up at the top! Apparently, the humidity was 85% (whatever that means)! The platform & steps are suspended by cables from t

5 Minutes From Our Door

Is the view we never tire of... Really enjoying our 10 minutes or more of walking, it's good to just drop everything & escape! On our return - we made pizzas. For the dough, we use Shipton's Mill Flour, Dove's Farm Yeast, Cornish Sea Salt, Olive Oil & water - with a sprinkle of oregano & sesame seeds. The topping Suma Tomato Puree, mixed with Suma Vegan Pesto & more Olive Oil.  I can post the recipe if anyone is interested. We then add what whatever veg we fancy - last night was garlic, onions, mushrooms... And sliced green olives.  Hugo also had a sprinkle of organic cheddar on his! Enjoyed lots of discussion last night about the way we treat older people in this country, triggered by Karin's blog at:  Green and Generous  - check it out & join the conversation. And before I forget - we saw this in St Austell on Tuesday & it reminded me of  Just Gai's Blog Off to Eden today, last day of locals for £5 entry - got to get our annual pass!!
