Dartmoor

We are spending a week on Dartmoor again at one of our regular pet sits - taking care of the usual menagerie... Along with this lovely chap - who is staying with the gang temporarily and we have come to adore him. Being professional pet sitters means we can only leave the animals for up to 3 hours per day, which suits us fine as we are content being here and pottering about. We have visited The Beehive Farm shop in Chagford and the Zero Waste shop in Moretonhampstead. Both shops are great for us and nice that they are close by. As well as feeding all the animals, walking the dogs and generally keeping an eye on them all, we are enjoying cooking simple meals, reading, sitting by the fire and watching YouTube videos of folks building and renovating small houses in remote places!  It has mainly rained since we arrived with just yesterday being dry, which was nice! Amazingly, we've only got a thorough soaking once and seem to be quite intuitive regards venturing out and have mostly cho

Going With The Flow

It has been such a treat to have good weather again, especially as we are on another pet sitting assignment. We decided to take a longer route to our destination in Hampshire - taking a more scenic route out of Cornwall, along the Atlantic Highway and a wonderful stopover with our dear friends in Glastonbury. As always, we enjoyed feasting with great company and left with full bellies, feeling relaxed.  We had already travelled from Cornwall, through Devon and into Somerset and the next part of our journey took us slightly north through Wiltshire and West Berkshire before landing over the border in Hampshire. It was a gorgeous sunny journey with little traffic and we thoroughly enjoyed taking our time, soaking up the sights and loving the changing scenery. It seems such a long time since we travelled through this part of the country...Frome, Trowbridge, Avebury, and Marlborough. Seeing delights such as:  Westbury White Horse   Silbury Hill   West Kennet Long Barrow   Savernake Forest

Bringing Joy Into Our Lives

We seem to have quite a few pet sitting assignments lined up this year and we are very happy about it. We feel incredibly honoured to be paid to do something that is so enjoyable and adore spending time with such lovely furries. It's a pleasurable way of living for us and such a simple way of life...walking, cooking, eating, taking care of various pets, reading and sleeping.  A nice change from our sometimes crazy work schedule at home (well, crazy for us) we just can't help getting involved with folks in need of support, but what we really should be doing is taking care of ourselves too.  House and pet sitting means we can take things easy, no rushing around and it is truly wonderful; basically a paid holiday! We are currently in very hot Hampshire, arrivi ng 10 days ago totally unprepared with more food than clothing - pretty normal for us...which means we've already had to buy shorts and now an elderly neighbour has offered for us to cool off in her pool, which leaves

Working Holiday

When we think about all the wonderful opportunities that come our way, we sometimes have to pinch ourselves...what an incredible life we have created together! This is the beautiful place we are taking care of at the moment and although it's been a while since we were last here, it has felt like coming home and our furry friend has been very happy to see us. The huge garden is a peaceful haven for wildlife and it's a joy to wake up each morning to hear and watch the birds and squirrels feed, potter and play. There is also an abundance of butterflies and bees...being surrounded by nature is very much home from home for us, as our Cornish home is also a quiet haven with many birds, bees and butterflies.  Woodpecker Red Kite Our lovely furry buddy... enjoying some snuggles. Our roles here are to firstly doggie sit (feeding, walking and snuggling), then take care of the vegetable garden, feed the birds and look after the house. We do love all our work - helping others comes natural

Cheekpot #3

Our beautiful pal Mabel. We were around when she first arrived at her home and we stay with her when her mum goes away...we are her family and we share a wonderful connection. She trembles with excitement every time we arrive to help out her mum and we have to have lots of cuddles before we can do anything and again before we leave. She is a sweet natured, intelligent soul and we adore her. We are also her guardians and have promised to take care of Mabel if anything happens to her mum. This means that she may at some point come to live with us - which we will be highly honoured to do. She also enjoys licking faces! Love Kay and Sime xx

Cheekpots

The joys of tiny home living. Our furry friends sneakily end up in places we'd prefer them not to be, which is mainly the bed or the kitchen table. The trouble is they just don't care what we say and they know that if they persevere - we will end up giving in! We do make allowances for our old chap, Floobs (Flea) and how can we treat young Tiky differently? So they both get away with doing whatever they want, though it is a relief at the moment that they have both moved on from sleeping on the bed, which caused us to have a few disturbed nights with Floobs desperately trying to sleep between us or on Sime's pillow and Tiky on our feet... Both purring loudly! They are now going through a kitchen phase and leave us to sleep solidly, which we are very thankful for. We are also grateful that they continue to be fine with each other and we can leave them in together when we go off to work - They love the cabin as much as we do!  When Lupe died last year, we never imagined that

Complimentary Cabin Kitty

This is our new friend Tiky, we agreed to become his guardians when we took on the cabin, but as usual with us...his name has morphed and over the weeks he has become known as Tickety Boo! This beautiful chap is such a sweet natured kitty, who has calmly put up with the upheavel of his family leaving, spent 2 weeks more or less living in the workshop and to top it all – these strangers move in and with another cat!!! We are so happy that he has accepted us all...he and Floober (our old boy, Flea) growled a couple of times at each other while eating and now are happy to be close and can even be left together in the cabin for many hours. It’s funny really, we had both decided a while ago that we would not be taking any more cats in...but we agreed to having Tiky without hesitation. Our unexpected bonus. How lucky we are to be sharing our lives with yet another gentle soul.   ♥♥♥

Time For Change

New opportunities have presented themselves again and the time has come for us to move on. Since coming to Cornwall in 2002, we have lived in some amazing homes and have promised ourselves over the years that we will continue to stay and live in places with beautiful views. We love the view from the kitchen door here and this will always stay with us...especially early mornings and seeing the sunrise. This year has been quite wonderful for us...being in the right place at the right time.  We have found joy in gardening...preparing beds, growing vegetables and fruit, as well as clearing and weeding.  Enjoying the peace of the Cornish countryside, connecting with nature and continuing to slow down.  We are both absolutely committed to this way of life...living simply and eating well.  With this in mind, we are moving again - staying in Cornwall and becoming the new guardians of a quirky little cabin in a community of lovely folks. We are looking forward to having our own little space wit
