Still Here

I can't tell you how many times we've started writing about various things, but have had to stop due to lots of things going on... We have lots of draft posts, some with a few photos & no words, some with just a title & a line or two... It's quite a few, but neither of us seems to find time to get them finished & after several weeks the desire to share those photos or ideas just fades & we move on to the next thing.

Some days are just so crazy... Getting up at 6.30am to prepare breakfast for guests, then doing a full day's clean, returning at about 5.30pm, cooking dinner, eating with our guests & more often than not - chatting away until late, washing up & finally falling into bed at around 1am... I don't know how we do it, but we do.

The one thing we are doing right this year is making sure that we have 2 days off from going out to work, which is great - though frustrating for some of our customers who desperately want us to work at short notice...
At one time, Sime would have given in & agreed to us working on days we wanted off. His argument being that we should make the money while we can, but after years of me becoming ill every summer & ending up in hospital last year - he's finally seeing things quite differently.
He makes me stop if I'm really tired, while he continues to entertain our guests so wonderfully.
Our slow Sundays are always great, we enjoy pottering & chilling out. Most of our guests love that we have an unplugged day too & we think it's also contributed to us gradually slipping away from the computer... We've even lost interest in watching films like we used to! One thing that hasn't stopped though is our love for music & spending so much time with fabulous folks means lots of new music has been discovered, music from all over the world - fantastic!

Another thing we have been doing is asking guests to give a donation for meals, rather than us charging & as our first pot quickly filled... We are now on our second sealed pot, which is amazing!

Making the most of our free time!

Night, night.

Love Kay & Sime

Hi there

I last came past here in the Blogblast for Peace (2012), and thought I'd stop by to see how you are. I've very impressed with how you've managed to tone down modern life so it doesn't intrude on your everyday life. Also, my daughter and I being vegan, and the others being stages of vegetarian, I'm interested in your b&b...if ever we come your way. Where abouts is it?
Hope you get to see the Northern Lights soon...while the sun is in its more active stage...I saw it with my four kids a few years ago, and it was amazing! Didn't see it all the while we were in Tromso, but took a dog sledgeing trip up into the mountains, and the lights were there for several hours above us. As I said - amazing!

Rural Life

We live in a small hamlet of 14 households - all on one lane, but spread out & mainly detached, apart from the 3 barn conversions across from us. There have been a number of changes in the six years we have lived here, people moving in & out, houses renovated & extended, but for us - the worst thing is that the last few newcomers are city people. They have all spent thousands of pounds modernising their homes & turning them into fortresses. Fences & gates have been erected, security lights & alarms fitted...
I suppose most folks will think that they are being sensible, but it's changing the way our little place looks & feels & to me it seems that these modern extras will invite unwanted attention - it suggests there's something worth taking. What was once a simple, quaint little hamlet is fast becoming yet another exclusive part of rural Cornwall.  Only 3 of the 14 households are Cornish & they are all related, the rest (apart from us) are well …

Top Of The World

It's my lovely wife's 45th birthday today and it's great to see her having such a nice time.  We had a bit of a lie-in, then Kay said that she'd like to go to the new Eden Project Cafe in St.Austell for breakfast. The food didn't disappoint (see photos).

Good portions of quality nosh prepared with love and a flair for presentation. Rival cafes, take note: This is how it's done. Having dined there recently, we were aware of their "Book Swap" area.  Choose a book from home you wish to donate, write a brief piece in the inside cover and put it in the Swap Section. Then, if there's a book you fancy, take it home. Kay donated her favourite book "The Complete SAS Guide to Interrogation Techniques". I made that up. She actually donated the wonderful book "The Tibetan Book Of Living and Dying" by Sogyal Rinpoche, only because the last page is missing. Just joking. It was in pristine condition . I suggested selling it at a car boot sale i…
