No snow for us...

Everywhere in the UK seems to have had some snow just lately, except our little peninsula. It has been really cold though! Only 2 weeks ago we had some serious flooding in the area.

Mevagissey, which is just a couple of miles down the road, was hit really bad...

Sime took these a few hours after the flood water had peaked. It's going to take a long time for homes & businesses to recover again, but everyone involved seems to be strong & determined to get back on their feet!

It seems strange that just a few days after the floods, we were plunged into freezing temperatures - weather that we really are not used to around here & our house, although we have heating, has been the coldest we have known in the 5 years we have lived here (the price we pay for living in such an old draughty farmhouse)!

Anyway, a good way to keep warm is to keep busy & so we've spent lots of time over the last few days making & baking...

My rustic 'no knead' loaves... Only small, but 2 slices are incredibly filling!

Our home made granola/muesli...

*Must try & remember to take more photos of the food we make*

Tonight, I am preparing for our trip upcountry - we're heading off tomorrow to visit our folks for a few days, mainly to support Sime's Mum, Bebe with various things that need to be sorted. She has the beginnings of dementia & although she is insisting that she continue to live alone in her flat, she is finding it increasingly difficult to cope. Sime doesn't have any siblings, so we're having to make lots of decisions with & for her to make life easier, but how long can she carry on safely?

Luckily, we have care agencies helping out & checking on her daily, but there will come a point when she can no longer stay on her own & it will break her heart...

  1. Thank you for stopping by my blog; it's always to 'see' someone from Cornwall.
How sad to see floods in Mevagissey, I hope homes and businesses will recover.

  2. Hi Sunny,
There's lots of work going on down in Mevagissey, so it's slowly getting back on it's feet again. Though I did notice a couple of days ago that quite a few cottages have now got "For Sale" signs in their windows...
