A Good Start

Woke up this morning with toothache...
I knew it was coming, as the tooth had cracked while we were in France.
Had the dreaded emergency treatment this afternoon (a filling) & am now in more pain!
Luckily, I've found some homeopathic remedies in our bathroom cabinet, which a friend gave to Sime last Summer after having his 4th tooth extracted... I've taken one dose of Arnica & have some Hyper & Cal to take too. Just hope that the pain will have calmed by tomorrow!

I find the best way to cope with pain like toothache is to just keep busy - this morning there was lots of paperwork to sort through, then I decided to make: bread, rolls, a brown lentil cottage pie & a big pan of vegetable soup.

We also travelled down the lane again for our daily walk - this is the view 10 minutes from the house...

The beach is getting nearer...
The field has a footpath - which is the short cut to the beach, but we like going along the lane instead.

Will take some photos of the lane tomorrow - it's tiny & lots of vehicles end up getting stuck as it's so narrow!

Hugo & I thought it was Pancake Day yesterday, so we made some vegan pancakes tonight (we usually have them after the day!), but for some strange reason Pancake Day has moved to March, so we've had them early!

We used strong white bread flour, gram flour, oat milk & olive oil...
Topped with some soft brown sugar & fresh lemon juice.
The perfect comfort food for toothache!!!

I keep hearing people talk about putting lemon juice on pancakes - I am going to have to try this. Hope the tooth feels better soon.

Hope the toothache has eased off, Kay. How did you manage with the lemon and sugar on the pancakes!

I hope your weather is as good as ours today, it's a lovely day for a walk or spending time in the garden. The sun is shining and I can hear the birds singing through the open window.

Mel, I don't know what lemon would be like on American pancakes, but it's lovely on English (British? or are they French?) pancakes, with a little sugar. It is the traditional accompaniment, but I don't know how old the tradition is.

We have lemon and sugar with French pancakes (crepes) ubt crispy bacon and maple syrup with American ones.

I hope your toothache eases soon, Kay.
We've never tried sweet pancakes with something savoury. Perhaps we should try some vegan rashers with pancakes & syrup... But Mel, lemon juice & sugar is really good!

We didn't get to do a walk yesterday, as we worked too long, but the weather was lovely & mild!

Take Time

How often do you take time to be thoughtful and quiet? To breathe and be in nature? Do you start your day slowly, even when busy?
We like to spend our mornings gently waking - reading to each other, writing, sometimes singing, making breakfast and taking time to leisurely eat and digest our food before we begin our day. We choose to live in the slow lane, from where we observe others rushing through their days, often stressed and with a need to fill every moment doing what they consider to be meaningful.  We feel no guilt in being lazy and happily sit around chatting instead of doing what we loosely planned to do. You may think it's procrastination, but we prefer to think of it as "going with the flow". There is more to life than filling your days with stuff, working hard, keeping up with your neighbours and it's not until you get off that treadmill that you can see for yourself just how great life can be. Part of the process for us in slowing down was to write mor…

Last Night...

It's always nice to get-together with all the kids...
It's also very rare!
But last night we managed to all see the old man's band play...
Which was a nice thing to do, though I have to admit - I really didn't like the pub! There were certainly a few characters around.  Being country bumpkins - a Friday night in a large town centre pub isn't really my idea of a good time & I just found myself feeling very uncomfortable in that environment, just so glad the kids were there too!
There wasn't any trouble, but it felt like there could have been at any time!
The band played well, but only the landlady of the pub seemed to really appreciate them. Such a shame for great musicians to play to a disinterested crowd, but that's the way it goes...  I suppose these experiences will only spur the guys on to get what they really want & take a step up to the next level - where they deserve to be!  Here's a video of them performing California from last night.

Travelling On A Budget

We often get shocked at how much folks are willing to pay for vacations. Even if we become billionaires...no don't laugh, you never know...we will no doubt continue to travel simply.  We love camping for starters, so we can't imagine not doing it and then there's a real joy in bargain hunting hotels and holiday accommodation.
We tend to camp if we can do more than 3 nights and the weather's nice. If it's not so good, then we usually look at self-catering accommodation and easily find great places. When we're on the road we tend to find cheap motels for overnight stays and book a few hours before arrival to save money. These can be anything from a motel chain to a more fancy pants country hotel...on our last trip to France we found ourselves staying in the grounds of a vineyard in Burgundy and it was lovely!  A lot of small hotels open up to business travellers out of season and when they still have rooms available, they reduce their prices and that's where…
