Bakewell, Bebe & Being Home

It's been another tiring trip.
We are used to our fairly quiet little hamlet, so staying in a hotel on a busy main road has meant sleepless nights for the three of us...
The hotel was hot & the beds were uncomfortable, but it was cheap & clean, so we're not grumbling really.

We did have a lovely day in Bakewell with Bebe & relatives from Yorkshire.
We'd forgotten how beautiful the Peak District is...

The Roaches on the Staffordshire Moorlands

Bleak Moorland

And pretty Derbyshire countryside

Staffordshire/Derbyshire border

Green & stormy

Bebe in the back of the car

A Bakewell pub with Bebe's (& Sime's) cousins - who we haven't seen for over 10 years!

Our cheese rarebit tart - was pretty awful...

The incredible shrinking woman...

River Wye in Bakewell, complete with carp...

Ducks & ducklings

In a world of her own...

A lovely day & great to catch up with relatives

On the way home...
The guy on the quad bike used scare tactics to keep the cows moving - not nice!

After Bakewell, we went to see Grandad Gerry & Nana Footstep...
As always, the table groaned with another delicious feast!
Finished off with a big bowl of strawberries, Bakewell Pudding (on the right of photo)...

And a very nice chocolate cake!

Tuesday was a very busy day - sorting Bebe out...
Sime worked really hard - cleaned Bebe's flat, found a mobile hairdresser, ordered a new dustbin, sorted her laundry, shopping, garden, memory clinic appointment, etc.
Hugo & I helped a bit, but the lack of sleep & eating out all the time started to take it's toll - we were knackered!

Another meal out...
Sime's veggie carvery

Carrot Cake

Chocolate Brownie Sundae
Hugo says he doesn't want to join us on our next trip - it's a whirlwind of doing, visiting, eating & not enough sleeping!

Luckily, our journey home was much easier...
So we stopped off in Glastonbury for a bite to eat.
It is probably over 15 years since we last visited & we were a bit disappointed that the eateries were closing for the day at 4.30pm!
Luckily, we found a place that served veggie food called Blue Cedar...

And we had a really tasty vegan burger

Glastonbury, between showers

We thought we'd just have a quick look at the Tor before heading home...
It is there somewhere!

The rain stopped & we were able to get a bit closer!

As much as we were looking forward to the trip...

We love our old bed, our quiet lane & cooking our own meals - it's good to be home!

Kay & Sime xx

There's no place like home.

I agree, nothing like your own bed!

OK ~ so when I was first reading this I read "rabbit tart" and I was thinking ~ what??? They ate a rabbit tart?? I'm not sure what 'rarebit' is, but I hope it's not a typo and that it really was 'rabbit' tart you ate. eeeek!!!

But the chocolate cake looks good! :)

Nothing feels as good as getting into your own bed after being away from it for a few days. Heaven!!!

Glad you made it home safe and sound!

Have a happy week!

Always nice to get out but always great to come back :) Sounded like fun-with the family and food and all :) My kinda fun, anyhow, haha! Stay well!
Thanks for your comments & Catherine - Rarebit is a Welsh dish: scrambled eggs with cheese & usually toasted on bread, but we had it in/on a tart!
