Rewilding Our Life - Day 3

Image
We returned home too late last night to write about our day, but here we are... Day 3's activity was to sit under/by a tree for 30 minutes, so as we were heading to Hugo's college - we decided to have a little detour to Idless Woods. Just before the woods we passed a wonderful sight. An old phone box turned into a book exchange... Such a great idea! In the woods...  It was a mild, calm day. We saw this cottage through the trees - it was lovely watching the smoke. We had the whole place to ourselves. The branches always seem to make shelters when they fall.  Though this one was man-made! We sat quietly for 30 minutes just listening to the birds. We don't have many trees around our home, we live high above the sea & it's very exposed.  Before we moved here, we lived in a woodland... So being amongst trees feels like home! Kay & Sime xx We Are Wildness

Bebe's Bet

Bebe seems to complain all the time about everything at the moment, but this morning she was in a silly mood & decided that her moaning should stop. Will it last? We shall see... Kay & Sime xx

Rewilding Our Life - Day 2

Image
We've been working in Portmellon today, which is about 2 miles along the coast from us. A lot of the folks we work for now really depend on us, it's much more than just cleaning these days & we are really happy to help out whenever we can.  Today, we just felt it would be nice to offer to take our furry friend out after we cleaned her house. Today's activity is to be up somewhere high. There are no mountains in Cornwall, though there are a couple of stunning hills - but they are quite a drive away from here. We had to work all day, so only had an hour spare before picking up Bebe from daycare. Heading on the coast path from Portmellon to Chapel Point... And looking down towards Chapel Point. Lovely Tara. Us in the pouring rain with Chapel Point behind us... Here's what it's like in the summer. Kay & Sime xx We Are Wildness

Rewilding Our Life - Day 1

Image
We have started our 30 day challenge to spend at least 30 minutes in nature each day. We managed to get ourselves organised & finish work on time for a change! We were down in Gorran Haven, so decided to pop up to the coastal path above Vault Beach.  It was such a wonderful way to rejuvenate ourselves after work & the sea breeze certainly blew the cobwebs away... Rewilding Our Lives

Image
We have decided to take part in a 30 day challenge to rewild our lives. It starts tomorrow & it simply means we have to mindfully be outside in nature for 30 minutes a day. It's not always going to be easy, but now the nights are lighter - we want to make the most of it... Whether Bebe will join in, we don't know... Maybe it would be more enjoyable to do it without her. We shall see! We Are Wildness Kay & Sime xx

Candle Power

Image
Our Earth Hour  celebration was lovely, although Bebe was confused & kept changing her mind about eating with us... In the end she ate before we switched the lights off & joined us for a candlelit game of Trivia Pursuit afterwards. Because of Bebe's sundowning condition, she automatically thinks that it's cold when dark... So even though it was very warm next to the woodburner - she spent the evening in her coat! She still managed to answer lots of questions... We were very impressed! Kay & Sime xx

Earth Hour 2014

Image
For the past few years, we've been to our friends' at Cotna  for Earth Hour. We have always shared a meal & when the weather's been good - we've also enjoyed a bonfire. This year is different for us...  Bebe is here, so in less than an hour - we shall be eating a candlelit meal cooked on the woodburner. Is anyone else switching off for  Earth Hour ? If so, we'd love to hear about your evening. Bye for now. Kay & Sime xx

We Did It!

Image
Hello! At last, it feels like we have finally found the right balance of work, Bebe, home & play... It's been a tiring few months of trying to do far too much, while coping with Bebe, who after the initial honeymoon period - has struggled to settle. We realise that she will never truly feel at home & instead, she talks of going home on a daily basis.  We have thought on many occasions since Bebe moved in with us that we have perhaps made a mistake bringing her here & that she would in fact be happier in a care home with people her own age. When she's with us, she often tells us that we are boring & that she is bored... She doesn't want to get involved in anything & her ability to concentrate is very poor. There are fleeting moments when she snaps out of her misery & 9 times out of 10 - it's because we put her music on.  We decided that for Bebe's wellbeing & our sanity, she needed to increase her days at daycare. First she did 3

Let There Be Love

Bebe loves singing, so Sime dug out an old microphone. Dementia makes it a struggle for her to remember the words as well as she used to, but it doesn't stop her from having fun & of course - we are only too happy to encourage her! She also loves seeing herself on screen & even though the words are a bit jumbled, she's always keen on us sharing the videos & keeps saying "It'll give the world a laugh!" Hope you enjoy it. Yuletide

Time For Us

Image
We are really getting into the swing of life with Bebe & she is doing wonderfully well... Far better than we ever imagined! She has been with us for 3 weeks now & has already got to grips with the stairs & where her bedroom & bathroom are... When she arrived she was unsteady & using a walking stick, we had to assist her on the stairs & getting up the step in her bathroom. Now she has given up her stick & can negotiate the stairs & step independently... Has she just gained confidence or is our vegan diet working wonders?!  We moved to Cornwall when Hugo was just 5 years old & although Bebe has seen him regularly over the years she just can't accept that he is now a young man, so sadly she greets him as either a stranger or thinks he is Kay's Brother! Bebe is loving day care & will soon be going in for regular respite.  We are missing being able to go out in the evenings, so once we are satisfied that she is ready
