Way Out West

Another trip to the far west of Cornwall...

Starting off at Marazion...

With a good view of St Michaels Mount.

Towards Land's End - we spotted this traction engine...

We had to stop to have a look.

Then it was on to Sennen Cove...

Where there was a strange mist over the sea...

The sea looked beautiful...

And the beach was packed!

Land's End is now like a theme park...
It costs £5 just to park the car - we didn't stay!

Instead we stopped at The Apple Tree Cafe.
A place we could see ourselves running...

Where we discovered we'd been before many years ago!
When it had different owners...

They obviously share our taste in colour...

So lovely...

And the food was outstanding...

Courgette & Mint Burgers with all the trimmings.
The tastiest meal we've had in a long time...

The carrot cake was delicious too...

As was the chocolate & walnut brownie...
It was so good - we had to write an essay in their visitor's book!

Once we managed to tear ourselves away from the cafe...
We followed the road around the coast & fell in love with all of it...

Geese around a pond on the roadside near Porthgwarra...

A pretty little place with a fascinating pair of cones on the cliff top... 

The tiny beach...

Even though it was a really hot day - we decided to walk part of the coast path.

The views were amazing...

And the sea looked very inviting...

We were really intrigued with the cones...

And the rocks...

They were finally getting closer...

Mystery solved...

Sort of...
All we know is they are owned by Trinity House!

It's a lovely walk up there...

Though a bit tricky getting through the ferns & brambles!

After our walk we headed towards Porthcurno...

We spotted this old petrol pump...


Just above Porthcurno is The Minack Theatre.
An open-air theatre with breathtaking views...
Unfortunately it was closed, but we're hoping to see Cyrano de Bergerac there next week.

A beautiful place.

On our way home - we had a quick look at Prussia Cove.
It is privately owned with holiday cottages dotted around...

More lovely views...

An intriguing path, maybe next time...

We had an appointment to keep...

We left Goldsithney & came across some lovely old cars...

An Austin A30 van we think...

Could imagine us pottering around in it...

What an amazing day & to top it off we stopped to have a look in a garage which had lots of old Jaguar cars.
Even though it was nearly 8pm - the owner of the cars invited us in to take a look...
We enjoyed a fantastic tour & finished off at the owner's house to see his model Jaguar collection & a chat with his wife - such lovely people!

    I'm green with envy. i love the wild west of Cornwall and you appear to have had the perfect weather for it.

    I agree with you about Land's End. How they got planning permission to build that monstrosity is a mystery.

    Sennen Cove's one of my favourite places. The Apple Tree Cafe looked delightful. I must look out for it next time we're there although it could be difficult to stop when travelling by bus.

    Hi you two,

    Looks as though you have had a lovely day. I have been to all the places you visited today just about. I have a water colour of Sennen Cove on my lounge wall which I can look at everyday, but there's nothing like experiencing it in the real as it were. The Minack Theatre at Porthcurno is a fantastic venue - may I make a suggestion that you take a rug to sit on/throw over you lap becuase if the breeze gets up you will need something. Cyrano De Bergerac if I remember should be really funny. Hope you both have a good evening.

    Looks as if you have found some treasure today you have piqued my interest and I look forward to the reveal. By the way love the colour of the front room.

    You're doing such a good job of selling Cornwall you're encouraging me to think of joining the hoards of grockels in your neck of the woods. Apart from a weekend a few years ago it's ages since I was last there. I have some fond memories from childhood, but when we went when our kids were small I only remember rain and sitting on cold beaches.

    However, my son came back with glowing reports of Turkey, so after a lovely, but not terribly warm, holiday this year we could be heading for somewhere with more guaranteed sunshine next year. Then there is Scotland, which is also lovely. I clearly need more holidays to fit it all in.

Some of you know about my fight with Graves Disease, an auto immune system disorder, which causes an overactive thyroid. Since I was diagnosed 7 years ago, I have made it my business to know everything I possibly could about the condition & this has probably saved my life. Our Neighbours

The ladies next door have been giving birth in the field. Their babies are like any other babies - they sleep, they feed, they follow their mums everywhere, they run around, then fall asleep again.  These little beauties are completely unaware of their fate... But we know... And this is one thing which makes living here difficult. How can people eat other beings without feeling terrible?     It just doesn't make sense. Our garden yesterday.
