Garlic

We've been busy with lots of Spring cleans just lately, mainly with older people who seem to be suffering with colds, flu or chest infections.
Over & over we have the same conversation about garlic & what an amazing healer it is...

Long term use of garlic boosts the immune system, it also has antibacterial, antiviral & antifungal properties.
It can prevent & treat colds, lower blood pressure, prevent heart attacks & strokes. It can be beneficial in the treatment of yeast infections, allergies, diabetes & even cancer.
We've used it to reduce fevers - puréed garlic taped to the soles of your feet at night will work wonders! 
We eat at least one clove each every day - raw in houmous & it goes into our main meals, a couple of cloves get cooked up with onions & then another couple go in the dish right at the end.  
People always get concerned about the smell, but if you eat it daily it doesn't - your breath will only smell of garlic if you just eat it occasionally. Some folks also say that garlic makes them feel ill, it shouldn't do if you introduce it gradually into your diet - try removing the centre if it's green & that should help.
We can't praise garlic enough... 
Forget the fancy superfoods that are being pushed in health food stores - garlic is cheap, local & easy to grow.
We love it!!!

And it's not just medicinal - it makes food taste really delicious...

My mate Sal is a great garlic fan, She eats it raw! We have to have to car windows open when we go anywhere LOL

Yep, use lots of garlic in cooking, all your dishes look delicious by the way! I also make a garden spray using garlic,just boiled in water,left to marinade a while then strained, keeps the bugs off my veggies great :)

Dreamer - What a great idea, of course... We also get loads of insects in our kitchen during the Summer, so it would help keep our herbs from getting eaten & our tomatoes in the bath may benefit too! If only it would repel Slugs & snails... Thanks for that!

There is so much anger and stress surrounding many of you out there at the moment...
Take care of yourselves, take time out from the news and stop worrying about how many times your neighbours are venturing out. Occupy yourselves doing something new and interesting instead.

Most of our days are spent weeding, planting, cooking and eating.
We go to bed earlier than we have done in years, usually aching...pleasantly so though!
We are learning about growing vegetables, enjoying playing with soil and it feels good spending lots of time out on the land.

Nettles

Our garden yesterday.

Anyway, thought I'd share with you the article I've written for next month's Parish Magazine...


Our hedgerows are coming alive with food aplenty, but hardly anyone really notices the nettles that surround us, they grow quietly while using their juices to produce a medicine that can bring health.
